Head Restraints

Blockwork

Head Restraints are designed to secure the top of masonry walls while allowing controlled vertical movement caused by structural deflection, thermal expansion, and other building movements. These systems ensure stability of the wall without imposing unnecessary stress, reducing the risk of cracking at the head joint.

Material Standards

Sheet

  • Mild Steel to ASTM A1008 or BS 1449-1

  • Hot Dip Galvanized after fabrication to ASTM A153 / BS EN 1461

  • Pre-Galvanized Steel to ASTM A653 / BS EN 10346 (replaces BS EN 10327)

  • Stainless Steel to ASTM A240 / ASTM A666 / BS EN 10088

a. Adjustable Head Restraint

Adjustable Head Restraints are used to provide secure lateral restraint at the top of masonry walls while accommodating vertical movement. This allows the structure to absorb deflections and thermal expansion without transferring excessive stress to the masonry.

Key Features

  • Restrains top of masonry walls securely

  • Allows vertical movement due to structural deflection

  • Accommodates thermal expansion and contraction

  • Reduces risk of cracking at wall head joints

  • Adjustable design for flexible installation
